Package: emc2-fake
Depends: emc2-sim

camview itself is unproblematic, but you can see when it gets to camview-emc, there is a circular dependency upon emc2 rather than linuxcnc.

As per previous, you can get around it if you know what you are doing.
Alternately if you haven't upgraded to 2.5 or installed from the latest LiveCD, you can probably still use the packages as per the instructions.

Got her working tonight! Woo-Hoo!

My main problem is that I had the axisrc file on my computer. I guess I shouldn't have had that. I read somewhere that the axisrc file isn't required with the latest linuxcnc and as soon as I renamed it (so I could just rename it again instead of deleting it) it worked. The camera is a little grainy looking at dirty steel on the plasma table, but I through down my phone and it seemed to be a very good picture.

I will have to see about maybe adding some diffused light source or something. But hot damn, it works!

this is going to make tracing templates a little easier.

Hi,

Gentlemen, I'm really interested by this option,
unfortunately my native language is not english,
I'm French.
More over, I'm a Windows user.
I'm using Ubuntu lucid, just for LinuxCNC.

I tried to install this webcam tab option,
but nothing work, I don't know why exactely
and how fix that.

I think I did as well what explained in this link
I found the packages in the ubuntu package installer,
and installed them.

After that, I'm completely confused,
I don't know what I have to do.

Is there a way to install and setup this option
basically?
Anyone can explain step by step how to.

By step by step I mean, really step by step,
like... do that, clic here open this one
and type that, with all details and clear english.

I understand when a newb ask something like that,
it's a little bit boring for people used to practice.

This webcam option is very usefull for all LinuxCNC user
so please, I beg you to considering my request and share your knowledge.

Regards,

Have you seen:
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Axis_Embed_Video

Information which might help:

The INI file will be in your home directory, then linuxcnc/configs/<name of your machine>

You probably don't have a .axisrc file, you create it using gedit (applications - accessories). the "." at the beginning makes it a hidden file.

Hi Andy,

I saw this page,
I downloaded the zip file, unziped it into my linuxCNC folder,
nothing work,
I tried also to modifie my original ini file with the lines explained,
but it's the same, LinuxCNC with the lines added
in the ini file doesnt work,
I mean when I try to lunch LinuxCNC I have
the fail window message.

One point I didnt do is
"Download this file and place code from it in your .axisrc "

I don't know where is this .axisrc
is it a file which need to be edited?
how?

Edit: Message crossed
I will try this point,
as I said it's exactely what I missed,
thank you for this information.

Re edit:

Oh my god!
it almost work !!
I created this .axisrc file
now I have this new tab with the cam frame.

the problem now, is I only have a black screen instead the cam pic.
and when I try to change the cam setup
for exemple the "input.v4l2:0" tab
the cam frame disapear to the top (I'm in 1024x768 screen resolution)
and the buttons are really big square "XOR" "On" and "Save"
initially they were normal before moving any slider...

did I miss something again?

If you have linuxcnc 2.5 you don't need .axisrc

Hi,

Any help about the black screen?

To be clear,
before to install the cam tab option
I wanted to check if my webcam
is recognized under unbuntu
so I installed "Studio Webcam Cheese"
the only application I found to check.
Nice surprise, it worked.

Then after I tried all what I said before to
install the tab cam option.

Actually I can see a black screen and the cross hair if checked.
Also, when I go to my cam setup option tab
the rest of the main webcam tab interface
become weird,
the size buttons are big suddenly.

Hi,

Finally it works !! woohoo!

I re-read again all what said in this topic page after page
and found the Andy's trouble had same.

The good advice about Installing libgl1-mesa-swx11 instead the default -glx
I did it, and now I have my cam in the LinuxCNC tab :woohoo:

I'm using a chinese webcam bought on EB.

Now I'll re-re-read again to setup all of that
between what I see and the real measuring.

thank's gentlemen for your work and answers.
