Does anyone know is VirtualBox will run under the Ubuntu kernel that has been modified for Emc2?

Hi

Does EMC run well under virtualbox? - looking to use it under Fedora? - the machine is an i3 with 2 gb ram. I hope it can be used to run a CNC.

Hi all, blatant newbie here.

I installed the current linux/emc2 on a new computer last night - no problems.

Just now tried to install VirtualBox 4.0.8 and it tells me .....

Error: Wrong architecture 'amd64'

I'm new to linux but the cpu is definitely amd64. Am I missing something? Could the latest VB have an issue with the real time kernal? Maybe try an older version of VirtualBox?

Tnx;
Doug

realtime Kernal will not run in a Virtual box , or under any emulated or simulated enviroment , it needs direct access

I'm not trying to run linux in a virtual box. The machine is set up with linux as the base OS.

I need the ability to run XP in a virtual box for programs that are not available for linux.

I have not used VirtualBox, but is there an option that allows it to declare itself to the guest OS as a range of CPUs?
As I understand it VB hides the base OS from the guest OS, which thinks it has native access to the CPU. So, the AMD64 detection is more likely to be in VB than in Ubuntu.
