Does the CD have this on it already? Will this work with out fail from 2.5?

Hi

The CD has 2.5.3 or 2.5.4 on it, but based upon Ubuntu 10.04 still.

These are the instructions for upgrading, including the points to note for change of syntax in hm2 and HAL generally
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?UpdatingTo2.6

There is already a DVD here with a 3.4.9-rtai kernel and realtime to suit
linuxcnc.org/binary.hybrid.iso
which has Debian wheezy with 2.6~pre-5 ready installed

I suspect this will be updated with the full 2.6 release before long, or you could install and do that manually easily.

It will work without fail but you have to appreciate that you are not upgrading from 2.5 to 2.6, you are trying to upgrade from a much older version indirectly
so some of your configs may not run at first.

There were changes to units in the configs, emc.nml was not required and crashed everything if it was etc.

You will just have to choose which path suits best and then ask for help if you get stuck.
It should only be something like the above and easy to fix

regards

The DVD image I indicated is a fully working user install with all the necessary libraries, I have installed it to test it myself a couple of days ago.

If you are building from sources, yes you need a long list of dependencies including those two

The 2 you hilight are the gotchas, because they are python libs and are only used by the config picker when Linuxcnc is launched and pyVCP, in a lot of versions you can build quite happily
and then find it won't run because they are missing. B)

of course there are a lot more packages, but these two are not highlighted with dpkg-checkbuilddeps when building from source.
