a 7I75 will work for example with a 7I77_7i76 configuration and give you 5 stepgens on P2
Its also possible to use a standard parallel port breakout and use a configuration made for
a 7I77 on P3 and a breakout pinout on P2

I'm dusting off this project which has been sitting for a while. I have a generic parallel port breakout board like this www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HV4Z5KS/ref...09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 which I intend to connect to P2 with my 7i77 on P3. Can you tell me which config I should use?

Probably the best would be a 7I77 pinout on P3 and a prob_rfx or similar parallel port
compatible pinout on P2

I can cut/paste such a config when I get a chance sometime this coming week

Do you have a datasheet for that BOB you can link to?

I can't make a well matched configuration without having at least a pinout on the parallel port side

Well no pinout so not much use unfortunately

Andy Pugh pointed out that the board picture has the parallel port pinout so doesn't look too bad
I'll poke at this if I get a chance tomorrow

I was able to flash the 5i25 and install the xml file so pncconf recognizes it. I'm working through my configuration now and, so far, no joy.

Just to test everything, I wired up an arduino to test the stepper driver and motor and it worked fine so I know my hardware is good.

Next I've selected the 5i25_7i77_bstech firmware.
On I/O connector 2 tab, I set setpgen3 to be A axis StepGen and left the other stepgens unused.
I wired the P- and D- pins on the stepper driver to P8 and P9 on the BOB respectively.
I connected P+ and D+ to PC5V (common anode) on the BOB.

At this point, whether or not linuxcnc is running, the driver is holding the motor.

When I launch test/tune in pncconf, or save and launch linuxcnc, jogging the axis doesn't do anything. I have no errors in the console. I'm not sure how to troubleshoot from here so suggestions are welcome.

I would not necessarily expect pncconf to make a working configuration that is totally new

To test the stepgens I would load a simple stepgen only config (say hm2-stepper)

Also if your BOB is non inverting, a common anode connection will require inverting the stepgen outputs
(since the drives OPTOS will be off when the step pulse is high)

I know you're not expert on this particular card but I'm confused and trying to understand if it's working at all. I have the breakout power disabled on the 5i25 (W1) so I assume I have to power the board directly. I connect 12V to the right side (12-24V)

Am I naive to expect that I should be seeing 5V on the PC5V header (lower right)? The BOB has a power LED light on but the 5V header reads 0.9V relative to the gnd marked 'common cathode'
