Hardware to control a DC 22kw spindle motor

Today I received a machine to retrofit and the spindle motor is a Siemens DC motor, max 65A/22Kw.
I never controlled a DC spindle motor before (only AC) so I do not know what kind of hardware I may need, therefor suggestions are welcome.
Thank you

You just have the bare motor, no spindle drive in the machine?
Well, that is a big motor, and will need a very big DC drive.
Will you need to do rigid tapping with this machine? If not, then a single-direction
drive should be fine, and you can do any reversing with simple contactors.
Does the motor have any speed feedback, like a tach? Or, do you need
to provide spindle speed feedback from the spindle encoder?

Really, all the difference in the drive is IN the drive, you shouldn't have
to think that much about it. If you have done a VFD retrofit, then once
the right drive is selected, everything should be very similar.

Original spindle was damaged, and it is a Siemens drive, old one. Too old for considering repairing.
Yes the motor have a tachometer and the spindle have an encoder, I believe that I can use only the encoder on the spindle and let the control be made from linuxcnc, and leave the spindle drive without feedback from the motor. This is currently my general picture, but I can be wrong.
Rigid tapping is not necessary.

OK, then a simple non-reversing spindle drive should do what you need,
and several people have set up LinuxCNC to do closed-loop speed
control using only the encoder. So, depending on what motion interface
you get, you can choose what control scheme (digital or analog)
the drive takes for a speed command.

BTW here's a manual for the Mentor II drive:

It looks like a 75A reversable (4 quadrant) model so pretty nice

I know a chap who really rates the CT UniDrives, and this is the DC version.
(I think that the UniDrives will run DC servos too, but it seems a waste)

What is the original Number of the Siemens drive, I have slaughtered a CNC-lathe with a 22kW DC drive. The drive must be running, but I haven't tested it, because the machine stood 2 years in a wet, unheated garage. If it's the same drive you can have it from me. But the transport (from germany) will not be cheap.

Thank you uli12us, but I bought the Mentor II drive suggested by Andy.
The drive arrived on Thursday and was powered on on Friday. The motor spins, but it is noisy and overheats. There are so many parameters to take care of that it will take a lot of time until I will know if the drive will work fine with the motor. I hope is a matter of tuning.
By the way, transport from Germany is normally not expensive. I buy a lot from Germany and it is normally less expensive than from France or England.

That depends on the weight. Until 30kg or a little less than 5 Stones the prices are payable. But I'm in doubt if the big Amp with the input and output coil will be in that range. But maybe its cheaper to put coils and amp in different packages.
I hope you bring the mentor drive to run, if not maybe the siemens amp is better. But only, if you have all the parametres noticed.
