I have tried every setting pertaining to the parallel port in the bios. The voltage reading is rock solid, it does not wander or change, it reads exactly +5.26 vdc. The other pins float at around 30 millivolts.
I have tried one other computer but did not check voltages. I will try the LED idea with the parallel port tester. Although I tried it once before, but that could have failed due to my lousy soldering skills.

Real time Kernal has been removed or stopped etc , so in that case the parrell port will not work , so i'm not convinced the problem is in the hardware ,
i'd go more for a configuration issue

try loading any of the parrell port configurations , and then relist and see if the RTA errors dissapear , if this works then the chances are , the error is in the step conf configuration
if it still shows errors then i would look at the installation of the emc cd

was this a clean installation form the live cd

cncblaster, yes this is a clean install from cd. thanks for the suggestion I'll give it a shot and then I will try the stepconf again..................................... and try and figure out what I'm doing wrong in the config.

I'm using the Keling C10 breakout, and the 4030 controllers.
I also tried Ubuntu 8.04 with the same problem.....
