First a big THANKS to all who have contributed to this thread. I had a Linux guru friend of mine, who can't even spell CNC, take a look at my system and believe it or not he got things working. The Axis sim mode runs fine on the default program where it engraves 'linux cnc'. He has not had time yet to explain what he did but as soon as I find out I will post.
I do have another question: when I try running another G code program I get an 'out of machine limits' error. How can I change the machine limits for the Axis sim ? I am wanting to use the sim mode to verify programs by looking at the back plot.
Thanx

The ini file contains the axis max and min limits.

Thanks John - I found where the file is located and read the info on the link you gave. I am fooling with the numbers and then looking to see what happened.

when I try running another G code program I get an 'out of machine limits' error.
If you have not done so already you can try jogging over to a good starting point and "touch off" all your axis before starting running the G code.
The display will you show you in red where there is a problem.

Thanx Rick G - That's good info - I was wondering how to get a home location at one of the corners of the red box. When changing values in the .ini file the box size changes but I always wondered how to get the sim to home in one of the corners as does a real machine.

I'm trying to run a sim configuration off the LiveCD (not installing). I get the machine on, home all, and when I try and run I get limit errors. That is with the default file loaded.
If I turn the machine on, home all and load a file, the same thing happens.

If I jog around a bit, it looks like my home is in an odd spot near the limits especially in the Z axis.

Should I be able to run from the LiveCD in sim configuration?

thanks
Steve
