Hello All !

Can someone please help me to let me know how to configure linked below AC servo drive with stepconf wizard ? Till now I only have these drives and servo motors. And simultaneously I have an ordinary 5axis, 2relay, 4limit switch breakout board to work with.

My problem is I don't know how to calculate driver timing setting and axis setting except that my ball screw pitch is 5mm and its directly driving the axis without any pully and gear.

My drive model is SA3L04C
www.bonmet.com/productshow_eng.asp?id=1506

Many thanks in advance.

My configuration is
Intel Xeon 3.0 ghz dual core
Intel G41
DDR3 2gb

My latency test

with "gzip -c /dev/urandom > /dev/null"
Servo Max jitter = 16350
Base max jitter = 19001

Stepconf is for configuring simple stepper motor driven machines. Pncconf is for configuring servo motor driven machines. I'm not familiar with that drive so I can't advise on that.

Typically a servo drive is fed an analog velocity command +-10vdc and receives feedback via an encoder. The drive gets feedback from a tach generator on the motor.

Thanks BigJohnT

Then I assume that it's not possible to connect servo drives with an ordinary breakout board which haves only step/dir input connection on it. And I have to go for mesa or vital systems cards. Is is right ?

these are standard analog input ( 0 - 10v ) servo drives , so require a servo drive interface , rather than a step / direction ( stepper ) interface
you will need a breakout board which gives you analog drive voltages , your best bet is to use a 5i20 / 7i43 with addon analog output interface from Mesanet.com
or the newer 5i25 with 7i77 daughter interface , is a suggestion here .

Many thank cncbasher.

5i20 / 7i43 OR 5i25 / 7i77
Is any of these two is enough for me if I want to connect it with external PLC ? Or I should include anything more to interface discrete I/O's with external PLC ?
5i25 / 7i77 looks interesting as it's cheaper then first one.

If you run out of I/O on the 7i77 then you can get a second card to expand your I/O. I'm not sure which card that is, but I'd bet Peter does.
